Q: How long have you been writing?
A: I’ve been writing short stories since I was a little girl. I love to read and it has always been one of my favorite things to do.
Q: What do you like about being an author?
A: Being an author was a dream that had been dormant within me for years. I enjoy bringing emotions to the reader and hope that I'm providing them with a little information they didn’t have previously. Since Cinnamon Girl Blues has been published, I have met so many wonderful people and have reconnected with others. My family and friends have been very supportive for which I’m very thankful. I feel very blessed!
Q: How did you come up with the idea to write Office Politics?
A: Thoughout my professional career, I've always worked in an office setting. I thought a story about employees in an office would be a good challenge and opportunity for me to write "outside of the box". In Office Politics, I touch on several topics including mystery and romance. By setting a specific writing schedule, I was able to write Office Politics in nine weeks.
Q: How long did it take for you to write Cinnamon Girl Blues?
A: From start to finish, it took me seven years to complete. I realize seven years may be considered a long time for most people. It started as a short story and I tucked it away in a folder in my home office. When I started graduate school, my school work became one of my top priorities. In between semesters and whenever I had some free time, I’d go back to the short story and add more. As you know, writing papers for school versus writing a novel are totally different. After being required to write papers on serious topics on a regular basis, my passion for creative writing once again came alive. Just like anything you may be passionate about, it will not let you rest until it is completed!
Q: Why did you choose the title Cinnamon Girl Blues?
A: Cinnamon Girl Blues is about friendship and having the support of your friends. When I started my undergraduate degree, I attended a small college in
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
